The Third Annual Robie Pierce One Design Regatta will take place on May 19 -22, 2011 on the Long Island Sound off of Milton Point in Rye, NY. The regatta will be hosted by the American Yacht Club in conjunction with Larchmont Yacht Club.
Format: Rules Seminar with a Practice Day/Clinic followed by two days of racing.
Able Bodied Team Members: Each boat will be crewed by two sailors with disabilities and one able bodied sailor (AB). The AB will assist in an action/activity that the sailors cannot do, must be able to take command of the boat in an emergency situation and must to be able to move about the cramped cockpit of an Ideal 18 safely. Participants may bring their own AB or an AB will be provided by the Organizing Authority upon request.
Boats/Adaptations:
The Organizing Authority will provide adapted Ideal 18’s for fleet racing.
· Charter included in Entry Fee.
· Competitors responsible for refundable boat damage deposit of $500.
Adaptations will be made to each boat reflecting each sailor’s disability per the Notice of Race. Other adaptations may be permitted by the Organizing Authority – such as alternative tiller extensions, suction hand holds; but no extra purchase systems may be added nor any holes drilled into any of the borrowed boats. The additional must be approved by the Organizing Authority and adaptations should not increase the advantage over other competitors.
Eligibility:
Skippers shall belong to their National Governing body.
All disabled sailors who have US Sailing or ISAF classification 2009-2012 are eligible to compete.
Sailors lacking US Sailing or ISAF classification 2009-2012 may enter by signing a form stating that they have disabilities;
that they have a permanent physical impairment (other than obesity) that substantially limits one or more
life activities that has been diagnosed by a physician.
Registration: All registrations with appropriate documentation must be submitted by May 1.
Entry Fee: $125 per sailor until May 2nd and $150 after May 2nd. Fee includes racing costs, Ideal 18 charter, breakfast and lunch Friday, Saturday, Sunday and dinner Friday, Saturday as well as beverages and snacks for awards ceremony. Full boat entry fee is due at time of registration. No fee for AB's.
